Kirkbie Kendal School

Kirkbie Kendal School is a popular and oversubscribed 11-18 mixed comprehensive school with 1040 students on roll. The students are very welcoming, friendly and outgoing, and our examination results are well above national averages at all key stages. Typically 83% L5+ KS3 in Eng, Maths and Science and 65% five or more A* - C at GCSE, ‘A’ level results are very good (The Times top 250 and top 5 in Cumbria) and all students got their choice of University last Year. We are a school with a proud history with our origins in the Kendal ‘Free Schole’ founded in 1525. This became Kendal Grammar School and in 1980 Kendal Grammar School and Kendal High School amalgamated to form Kirkbie Kendal. We are now a Foundation status school. We are a community where individuals matter and where there is not the same anonymity that might be the feature of a bigger school in a bigger place. Pastoral care is based on the registration form groups, with Pastoral Team Leaders leading the teams of form tutors. From September 2003 the School has been a designated Business and Enterprise School. This means that we have additional funding to lead improvements in all areas of the school using enterprise skills as a driving focus.
