Bolton by Bowland & Grindleton CE Primary Schools
In September 2008 we were inspected by OFSTED who regard us as a "Good school with outstanding characteristics"
The organisation of our teaching groups has led to enrichment of provision as follows: Class 1 – Reception,yr 1 and yr 2, class 2 – yrs 3 and 4, class 3 – yrs 5 and 6
Our groupings enable us to teach children in small groups and teaching assistants provide extra support both for children with special educational needs and in a wider role. More able children are also identified and supported. Children are also given guidance on how to achieve set targets - we have adopted the principles of assessment for learning. These targets are designed to move learning forward and is fully supported by schools assessment, recording and reporting processes.
In ICT - Each classroom now has an Interactive Whiteboard. (two in class 1) The ratio of children to computers is 1:2. We are moving towards a wireless system to further support learning across the curriculum.
All children have access to music tuition.
Modern Foreign Languages - French is embedded in our curriculum - taught to all children yrR
The appointment of an extra full time teacher has enriched our teaching provision.
We are committed to raising standards and providing the best quality of education for the pupils offering a range of opportunities. Our support of children through the learning process has allowed us to monitor progress and set challenging but attainable targets for the children. The development of aspects of assessment for learning are identified. OFSTED highlighted the need to develop children's writing opportunities and we are addressing this specifically through our Literacy programme but also through the development of a creative curriculum, using this as a vehicle to extend writing across curriculum areas. We are also developing Modern Foreign Languages and we teach French from yrR to Yr6. An area we are looking to develop is to support this programme with resources including learning platforms and liaison with the local high school. The creative curriculum also widens opportunities for children to find out about other cultures and we have identified a need to develop multicultural aspects to our provision. There is to be a focus on developing enhanced PE and games activities both within school time and as extra curricular provision. All these areas are identified in the School Improvement Plan.
