Corpus Christi is a voluntary Aided Roman Catholic Primary School for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 11 years. There is also a Nursery Class for which children are eligible on a part time basis after their third birthday. The school lies within the Archdiocese of Southwark and in the pastoral area of South West London.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. We hope you find it informative and enjoyable; giving an insight into what it's like to be part of our school community.
Corpus Christi Catholic Primary school opened its doors to the local children in our parish on the 1st October 1934. Our first headteacher was a man named Mr Walshe - he was head teacher for 18 years. The Corpus Christi Parish had a real family feel to it as Mr Walshe's two brothers served the parish as priests at Corpus Christi Church. The church that they served has long since gone, in fact, it burnt down on__________ here's an extract from Mr Walshe's Log Book about the events of that day.
Mr Paddy Conkling then took over until his retirement in 1982, a total of 30 years dedicated to serving the Corpus Christi Parish here in Stechford. Mr Conkling was responsible for many much needed improvements to the school as more and more children became members of the Corpus Christi community.
As Mr Conkling retired, Mr John Nash took over until 1992 when Mr Andrew Cunningham returned for a second stint. Mr Cunningham had been a teacher at Corpus Christi for a while and was very proud to say that he was head teacher of our school. Mr Cunningham oversaw the largest transition the school had seen; seeing it emerge as a one form entry school to a two form entry school. Of course, the school had to be extended even further with several new classrooms built. The school flourished and went from strength to strength under Mr Cunningham's direction. Sadly, Mr Cunningham passed away in January 2007. His name lives on in the school as we have a room dedicated, in his memory, to the commitment and enjoyment he got out of teaching. You may also know that Mr Cunningham's memory lives on in our wider Catholic family as the annual swimming gala is named after him - The Andrew Cunningham Birmingham Catholic Primary School's Swimming Gala.
In 2008 Mr Barry Desmond became the fifth head teacher of Corpus Christi. Again, the school has seen rapid developments under his headship and the school continues to thrive with a team of staff dedicated to the teaching vocation.
