Head of Higher Education Development £40,000 pro rata

Head of Higher Education Development based in Portsmouth. Our client, a Further Education College, is looking to recruit a Head of HE Development to provide cross-College leadership and management that will enable the College to meet its objectives. In addition, he/she will ensure good to outstanding teaching and learning across the provision.

Over 45 years Highbury College has become one of the most dynamic College's in the South East, with an ambitious and challenging vision to deliver world-class education and training. It has undergone extensive redevelopment and the new Highbury campus, opened August 2009, provides some of the most modern learning facilities in Europe.

Description of duties

Reporting to the Executive Director - Collegiate College, main duties and responsibilities:

* To lead and manage the higher education provision at the College, to promote high staff motivation and morale and be responsible for creating an appropriate identity for the provision which promotes excellence in line with the College's vision, mission, strategic priorities and objectives.
* To have lead responsibility for internationalisation of the curriculum for level 3 and above.
* To ensure that higher education programmes are delivered effectively and efficiently within the College's financial and quality parameters.
* To work in partnership with other Heads of Department within the College to provide a comprehensive portfolio of higher education provision that widens participation, promotes educational and social inclusion, reflects needs of individuals and groups, responds to the needs of local and regional employers and supports progression.
* To lead in the development of external partnerships for higher education programmes which add value with respect to the recruitment, curriculum delivery and design, assessment, work related learning and progression opportunities.
* To oversee and manage arrangements with awarding bodies for higher education programmes.

Experience / Qualifications

It is essential that candidates will possess the following:

* A Masters degree and/or equivalent level professional qualification.
* Substantial teaching experience in the field of higher education programme delivery.
* Experience of managing, developing and delivering a range of provision at level 4 and above.
* Experience of leading and managing people through periods of change.
* Effective leadership, management and support of staff including peers.
* A clear track record of improving student enrolment, retention and achievement.
* Experience of successfully responding to and creating innovation in the curriculum.
* Recent evidence of relevant professional development activities.


Candidates will need the following Skills, Knowledge and Competencies:

* Able to critically analyse own, colleagues and College practice and make practical recommendations for improvement.
* Knowledge and understanding of recent curriculum and accreditation developments in the Sector, particularly in relation to innovative practices.
* Able to demonstrate excellence in delivery of teaching and training.
* Enthusiasm and an ability to relate and motivate and guide staff towards agreed objectives.
* Excellent organisation and administrative skills.
* Effective interpersonal skills with students and staff at all levels.

It is extremely desirable for candidates to possess the following:

* Recognised teaching qualification.
* Experience of working internationally and/or with international students.
