Learning Support Assistants - Enfield £15,920 to £17,403 plus £1,701 London Weighting Pro Rata

Our client, a Further Education College specialising in land-based training, is looking to recruit Learning Support Assistants to assist in delivering vocational programmes and individual learning programmes to students with a variety of learning needs (can be subject to job sharing but will be for a minimum of 3 days per week).

About the College

Capel Manor College based in Greater London, is a Centre of Vocational Excellence for Horticulture, Landscaping and Garden Design, Floristry, Business Enterprise, Animal Care and Saddlery.

Description of duties

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Learning Support, main duties and responsibilities:

* To assist in delivering vocational programmes and individual learning programmes to students with a variety of learning needs, including learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
* To assist teaching staff, with groups of students with learning difficulties, disabilities or behavioural and emotional needs both in classroom and other activities.
* To support students with different learning needs in their everyday College life.
* To liaise with Learning Support tutors and personal tutors regarding any difficulties the students may present.
* To attend LSA meetings at least once a term. To attend at least one Student Progress Review meeting per term.
* To attend the School of Learning Support or other team meetings on a regular basis.
* To produce accurate records of learning support activities in line with Additional Learning Support procedures.
* To be responsible for ensuring that the health and safety of students is maintained at all times during the training sessions.
* To assist with Learning Support interviews as requested by the Study Skills Coordinator and the Deputy Head of Learning Support if trained to do so.
* To take part and support students on summer schools
* Any other duties of a comparable nature as requested by the Deputy Head of Learning Support and Head of Learning Support.
* To assist in the provision of Access Arrangements for examinations if trained to do so.

Experience / Qualifications

Successful candidates will need the following qualifications, experience and personal skills:

* Good level of general education to Level 2 including Key Skills, particularly in literacy and/or numeracy and/or IT
* Familiarity with ILT applications
* Active interest in one of Capel land based activities
* Good organisational and record keeping skills
* Experience of working in an educational environment
* Experience of working with learners with different learning needs
* Excellent motivational skills
* Personal communication skills of a high order
* Flexibility and responsiveness
* Skilled in liaison with others
* Ability to work on own initiative
* Enthusiasm for working with challenging learners
* Enthusiasm for working with young people
* Demonstrable commitment to inclusive and comprehensive post-16 educational provision

It is desirable for candidates to posses:

* Relevant qualification in one or more land-based industries
* Qualification in supporting learners with learning difficulties or disabilities
* Experience of working with young people
* Experience of coaching or mentoring

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: The jobs can be subject to job sharing but will be for a minimum of 3 days per week. The jobs are for 5.5 hours per day for 36 weeks per year, but days/hours will be discussed at the interview stage
