McMillan Nursery School
We would like to welcome you to McMillan Nursery School and we hope that you and your child will thoroughly enjoy the time we spend together.
At McMillan Nursery School we believe today's children are tomorrow's future. We will provide the best and achieve the most by growing and learning together.
A few days before your child begins nursery we will arrange to visit you and your child at home so that we can introduce ourselves and answer any further questions you may have. We will also ask you to share with us your child’s likes and dislikes so that we can build up a full picture of your child and their achievements.
Our Duty Of Care to the Children
We positively welcome children with special educational needs. We believe that nursery benefits the children concerned and other children in the nursery. We are fully equipped and have a multi-agency approach.
We have good links with outside agencies including Health Visitors, Sure Start, CDC, local shops and Bannister Court.
We aim to help the children consider and respect the feelings of others. If a child does behave in a way that is unacceptable, the nursery staff will deal with this in a calm but firm manner.
Smiling for Life
We are a smiling for life nursery. This means that everything eaten in nursery must be sugar free. It is very important to protect children's teeth from sugar, which results in decay.
Please do not bring treats into nursery when it is your child's birthday. We celebrate children's birthdays by lighting candles and singing to them at story time. They are given a card and a badge.
Snack menus are displayed in our reception area each week.
McMillan Nursery School was purpose built in 1950 for pre-school children. It has experienced many changes through the years. Children attended full time to allow mothers to work and to care for children in need. Nowadays pre-school education is recognised as invaluable as the foundation stone for children’s learning.
McMillan Nursery School caters for 110 3-4 yr old children, who attend on a part-time basis - either 5 mornings or 5 afternoons for 2 ½ hours per day. Morning sessions run from 9.00 am - 11.30 am and afternoon sessions run from 12.45 pm - 3.15 pm.
We realised that these hours did not help working parents and opened Offsprings in August 2001 which offers extended hours from 8am-6pm all year round for children aged 3 months to 5 years. Offsprings are closed only for Christmas week and bank holidays.
